Currently, the Church of England Synod members are meeting for the purpose of discussing
marriage, sexuality, and gender identity as part of the Living in Love and Faith (LLF)
discernment process. During these meetings, one Bishop decided to ask if the church would
declare itself homophobic.
In a question written to Bishop Mullally, Alexander Berry, a lay member for Leeds
Diocese, asked: “The House of (diocesan) Bishops has rightly publicly declared that the
Church is institutionally racist. Will the House of Bishops now begin a similar process –
possibly including a report – to discern whether the Church is institutionally
homophobic?”
Bishop Mullally replied: “As you know, questions of sexuality are being considered by the
Church – including the House of Bishops and members of General Synod – by means of
the LLF process.” 1
As Biblical Christians, we know that God created mankind as male and female and has instituted marriage to be
between one man and one woman. It is always concerning when those who claim the name of
Christ are even considering abandoning Biblical orthodoxy. Let’s pray they stay true to these
basic Scriptural truths.
