Overview:
Michael Wear is a Left-wing activist who touts himself as a model of Christian civic life and duty. He worked for Barack Obama, first as the leader of faith outreach for the 2012 campaign, and then as a member of the Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, serving alongside other notable Leftist activists such as Jim Wallis and former Wesleyan superintendent Jo Anne Lyon. He is a political strategist for the Democrat Party. Previously, he was the Chief Strategist for the AND Campaign, whose syncretistic mottos are “Compassion & Conviction,” and “Biblical Values & Social Justice.”
Michael Wear and the AND Campaign:
Wear’s political sympathies with the Democrat Party are evidenced by his involvement in the And Campaign, alongside co-founders such as Justin Giboney, Dhati Lewis, Sho Bakara, and others. An official version of the AND Campaign logo spelled out the phrase “Biblical Values & Social Justice,” which serves as an ideological delineation for the group. Given that Biblical values are factually opposed to social justice on an ideological and philosophical level, the AND Campaign is an attempt at syncretizing Christianity and the Democrat voting platform. This is demonstrated by the AND Campaign’s commitment to providing citizenship for illegal immigrants, support for government programs to act as crutches for those in poverty, attempts at de-politicizing the Pro-Life movement by insisting that the solution to the problem of abortion is “societal” rather than political, and insistence that the American criminal justice system is racist against non-white people, all of which are explicitly stated in the “Where We Stand” statement on the Campaign’s website.
Preaching at J. D. Greear-related Summit Church Plant:
In 2019, a church plant in J. D. Greear’s Summit Network Partner Churches, called Image Church, hosted Michael Wear (among other Democrat strategists) for their “Pursuit of Unity” event, in partnership with Wear’s AND Campaign. The focus of the event was a discussion on race and politics, alongside Christian language combining elements of the gospel with Democratic talking points.
ERLC Interview with Michael Wear:
In the Winter 2019, Volume 5, Issue 2 edition of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission’s Light Magazine, Moore praised Obama, saying “The President I served is someone who occupied the office… with this incredible grace. It was an honor to work for him every day…”
Wear’s Book Praising Obama:
In 2020, Wear released a book entitled “Reclaiming Hope.” This book is Wear’s account of what he learned during his time as an Obama staffer. In this book, he praises Barack Obama’s faith. Former President Obama supported legislation that denied medical treatment for infants who survived abortion, supported abortion up to the point of birth, and lied about his position on same-sex marriage until it was convenient for him to reveal that he was pro-sodomy.
Connections to Docent Group:
The Operations Administrator at Docent Research Group, Joy Harris, is also the Executive Assistant at Public Square Strategies.Docent Research Group was discovered to have prepared sermons and faith statements for many pastors (including notable figures such as Southern Baptist Convention President Ed Litton, Timothy Keller, Mark Driscoll, Matt Chandler, and J. D. Greear) ultimately relieving them of their duties to study the Scriptures and prepare messages for their churches for a price. Michael Wear’s employee– his Executive Assistant– is involved in the “behind-the-scenes” of Docent’s influence.
